Frequently asked questions

Which haircut suits a round face?

Cuts that add height and length rather than width work best, such as long layers, side-swept or curtain bangs, and lengths that fall below the chin. Blunt chin-length bobs tend to emphasise width. Our haircut and bangs guides show each option on round faces.

How often should I get my hair cut?

Every 8 to 12 weeks suits most hair. Short, precise cuts lose their shape sooner, so 6 to 8 weeks keeps them sharp, while longer hair can stretch beyond 12 weeks if the ends stay healthy. Trim sooner if you start to see splitting.

Which hair colour needs the least upkeep?

Shades within about two levels of your natural colour need the least maintenance, especially balayage and root-shadowed looks that grow out softly. All-over bleach and bright fashion colours need the most, usually a salon visit every four to six weeks.

How do I ask my stylist for the cut I want?

Bring two or three photos from different angles and say what you dislike about your current cut. Describe length against your body, such as collarbone or shoulder, rather than in inches, and be honest about how much styling time you will realistically give it.

Are curtain bangs still in style?

Yes. Curtain bangs remain popular because they suit most face shapes, grow out without an awkward stage, and can be pinned back on days you would rather not style them. They are one of the lowest-commitment ways to change a haircut.
